Class this week was a brand new experience for a lot of our students. We didn’t use headphones, or even do a lesson with our famous composers. Instead, we started with a new callback song called My Aunt Came Back. Some parents may remember it from camp days:) There was a lot to remember between listening and echoing and doing all the actions! Next we did something else brand new: we improvised on the piano. I played, and invited each of the students to take a turn playing with me. They were simply told to listen, and then join in on any white keys. Some students were eager, some were more cautious, but once they sat down beside me, the creativity kicked it. After our improv, we went to the keyboards and worked in a program called Concertmaster, which allows all the keyboards to be heard together. One of the students asked if she could play something for me, and that started something surprising and unexpected. Each of the kids wanted to play the songs they had been working on at home this past week! It was a fabulous impromptu concert! Great work at home parents:) We took the last remaining minutes to review many of the concepts we have been working on for the last few weeks, using the keyboards.
Today was a beautiful example of the amazing experience of developing the musician in your child. Ask your child all about it!
