Week 4 @ Portage View

Hello Portage View families! Week 4 was great… we are really enjoying having the piano in the multipurpose room. Today we introduced the ensemble piece for the Open House – Ode To Joy. The student’s sight reading is coming along so well. I brought the music, on the grand staff, and James asked if he could play it for us. And he did! He sat down at the piano and played the first line. And Brianna, who is only in her second term in MusIQ Club, played the second line! And she has only moved onto the grand staff in the last couple lessons. Lola is playing Banjo, which requires her to play 2 and 3 notes at a time! And Ella, who is in kindergarten, already knows the musical alphabet backwards! So exciting to watch your kids developing as musicians.

Level 1B (Ella)

Today we did lesson 17 (Playing and Singing Songs) and lesson 18 (More Playing and Singing Songs) with Mrs. Mendelssohn. Ella reviewed the musical alphabet backwards today, and she did 2 lessons. Her hand position is coming along beautifully and she played stepping note songs very smoothly with both her right and left hands.

This Week At Home:

You can review lesson 17 and 18 in the Library, and practice with Miss Melody in the Practice Room. Do the next worksheet in your workbook, and be sure to bring it back next week. And don’t forget to try the songs in the Repetoire section of your workbook.

Level 2A (Brianna)

Mr. Mozart taught us about the bass clef today. Brianna learned to draw a bass clef step by step. We also reviewed the parts of the grand staff together. We did lesson 35 (The Bass Clef: C, B, and A) with Mr. Mozart in CMJ2. Brianna also worked on letter name callbacks today.

This Week At Home:

Review lesson 35 in the Library, and practice with Miss Melody in the Practice Room. Do the Grand Staff: Lines and Spaces worksheet in your workbook. Try Ode to Joy on the grand staff.

Level 2B (Lola, James)

Today we did lesson 44 (Recital Practice) with Mr. Tchaikovsky in CMJ2. James was so excited because he played with no red notes (mistakes for Mr. Tchaikovsky to correct). Great work James! Lola practiced our new song called Banjo. Its pretty tricky, but you’ve got it – amazing! Lola worked on letter name callbacks, where I sing letter names and she plays them back, and true callbacks, where I just sing notes and she plays them back. Your turn next week James!

This Week At Home:

Review lesson 44 in the Library, and practice with Miss Melody in the Practice Room. Do the Bass Clef: Circle the Notes worksheet in your workbook. Also, work on your new songs, I Am Tall and Banjo.

See you all next Thursday!
